And this looked so attractive and came from a publisher called the "Home Educating Family" Voila! They would SURELY know how to construct a well-laid out planner, right? So I ordered this and received it fairly quickly. The things I liked about it were the articles, household budget, gift card registry, perforated shopping lists, the report cards etc. However, when it came down to the meat and bones of the planner itself is when I found myself very disappointed. I think the publisher, with good intent, tried to create a comprehensive calendar at a reasonable price. But they overreached and missed the heart of the reason a customer would buy this. For starters, the daily calendar and lesson plans are discombobulating. In my busy day (with 3 little ones)I don't have time to flip back and forth to figure what we are doing... Mine just came last week and I can't quit looking at it and preparing for our next school year. The planner has everything you need for the year to be organized. I was writing all my lists in different places before, but now can do it all in one book. It also has a few keepsake type pages for pictures and information about your children/family. The school planner part has space to record up to 4 children - I think it looks like it would work best for either 2 or 4 the way it's laid out though. Some other pages it has that I like are: Monthly greeting card list, Budget planning page, chore charts, place to record the schoolbooks you use and cost for the year, goal list, field trip planning, Holiday planning section, grocery lists that tear out (on a single page so your book is still nice!), and weekly Catechisms. This book was exactly what I was looking for, and while the price is a bit steep for a "calendar", I think this... As a homeschooling mom to three, I needed something more substantial where I could track all of their work as well as shopping lists, etc. This was the perfect solution. I bought this last year and will purchase the new 2011-2012 for our next school year. I really appreciated the thought and effort put into this book. There's sections for schoolwork, family budget, birthdays, cleaning routines, organization systems, contact lists, homeschool supply lists, field trips, curriculum and class plans for each student, Bible verses, encouraging articles for every month and tear out report cards in the back. Really, I couldn't have asked for a better laid out homeschool planner. And it's pretty too! Easily five stars! |
