5.0 out of 5 stars An essential storage backup tool in a digital world, April 24, 2012
By
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I'm a computer repair technician, and one issue I have all the time with my customers is, the famous, 'a virus hijacked my computer and those precious pictures are inside'. Yeah, the prom, the honeymoon, or the newborn pictures are usually held without ransom. Most of the time we are dealing with malware of some sort that affects the Windows operating system files, but leaves the data intact. So, before I repair the computer, I rescue the pictures, and any other file they might value. However, not all repair technicians do this, most allege that the files are corrupted, which might be the case, but usually it really means they are too busy to rescue anything, don't know how to do it, or will not do it unless paid big cash.

For one own's sakes, the best thing to do is backing up the data before the computer gets infected, or the hard drive fails. For pictures I recommend backing up the original files into data discs, but for faster everyday files backups (music, movies,... Read more

This review is from: Western Digital My Passport 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - WDBBEP0010BBK-NESN (Black) (Personal Computers)
This is my first experience with a Western Digital hard drive. I purchased the 1 TB Passport drive as opposed to others mainly because CNET awarded its Editors' Choice for the 2 TB model ( which was not available for sale when I placed my order). I am currently using the WD SmartWare (version 1.5.4.5) that comes with loaded the device.

Pros:
Smart form-factor. Very small and sleek for a 1TB drive.
USB powered ( just plug it into your USB port). No need for a power cable or bulky ac adapter. Makes for true portability.
Impressive USB 2.0 speed during my initial back up of 131 GBs worth of files/content.
Automatic file backup feature
One USB cable( supplied)supports both 3.0 and 2.0.
Surprisingly quiet and runs fairly cool too.
Excellent customer support. I called twice and spoke to well trained/professional technicians.

Cons:
WD Smartware software. Surprisingly so-so for this cool little device. Not as intuitive or... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I exercised this little drive pretty hard and it performed. Here is what I did:

I used my Apple iMac to test the drive. This computer only offers USB 2.0, so that is what I used. I used this drive as a Time Machine backup device, with data encryption. Unless you are an Apple user, that won't mean much to you. But this is relevant to any customer: Using the drive for the first time kept it writing, without interruption, for 48 hours straight. Apple's software wrote data to every available spot on the disk drive. When you have 2 terabytes of spots to write, it takes about two days. I kept the drive connected for another 12 hours too. During that time, the Time Machine software wrote a modest amount of data to the drive, once per hour.

No problems! I also tested the physical cable connection of this drive. This is a particular area of concern to me, because I know of several portable disk drives that have faulty connectors, which renders the entire drive useless... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Original HD, November 10, 2011
(Update 6/6/2012) GoPro finally released the new diving case which fixes the infamous underwater focus problem with the standard waterproof case after two years of long wait for some users. The diving case will cost $49 that is a great price, but it is extra. Anyway, all my comments regarding the underwater problem should not be a concern with the new diving case.(Update 5/21/2012) I got the new diving case from GoPro. Although it cannot attach any filter, it is still great. I like the lens cover that came with it too. I can also see tiny bid less fish-eye effect and wider angle on land. That is nice IMO. I am giving 4 stars because they have the fix now even though I needed to spend extra $49. The diving case is that good.

After all these issues / promises are solved and updated, I will give this product 5 starts.
1. (Fixed!!!)Underwater focus fix with Extra $49.
2. 127FOV and 90FOV for 720P as promised
3. Overheating issue and short battery life

4.0 out of 5 stars Updated review - great customer service, nice quality, November 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
Customer Video Review Length:: 0:38 Mins

April 2012 - I've edited this review a few times, detailing the ups and downs of the Hero2. Turns out I had a defective unit. In my several contacts with the help in the forums never suggested this - it was not until I contacted customer service directly that this came up. I sent the camera in (the rep said they would "keep an eye out for it" - Yea, right! I thought) - I needed it back ASAP for a ski vacation is Steamboat. Well, it arrived back in my anxious hands 8 days later. They had it for less than three days - that's impressive. The fastest turn-around for Canon has been four weeks.

The movie accompanying this review was is a time lapse shot at One frame every five seconds, 1145 photos. I reduced them in size, then used Quicktime Pro to make the movie. The extreme color shift towards the end is the camera automatically switching settings when it grew darker out.

So I used it every day for a week, plus every few days since then... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, there is no competition for the best helmet cam, October 31, 2011
By
Mike C. (tulsa, ok United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GoPro HD HERO2: Motorsports Edition (Camera)
The previous hdhero was the consensus best helmet cam on the market and now with the hdhero2 there is absolutely no doubt which one is best. These are just the imporvements that are relevant to me:

1. The screen is MUCH easier to navigate through and gives you a lot more info while filming than the previous hdhero. Resolution, wide angle/medium wide angle, battery life, remaining recording time on sd card, mode, and record time are all on the screen at the same time.

2. The beeping is louder. With the previous gopro if you had the waterproof housing on it was hard to hear. Not anymore.

3.New super slow mo option. You can now shoot at standard definition at 120 frames a second which lets you play back at incredibly slow mo. On the previous go pro the maximum was 60 frames per second. So you can now go twice as slow.

4. If I'm not mistaken this motorsports editin comes with more mounting hardware than the original hdhero... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars This is really a BIG improvement!, March 17, 2009

This review is from: Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
Hoover LiNX Cordless Stick Vac (Model BH50010) List $179.99 (3/17/09)

Pros:
Cleans well - on/off brushroll for bare floors or area rugs/carpeting, excellent on pet hair
Control on handle - easy to use
Charge indicator accurate & useful
Dust cup very easy to empty & clean (including baffle tube when necessary)
Filter easy to clean
Stands up to store

Cons:
Awkward on stairs - no stair-handle, must support from below. I'm getting used to this, and it's easier if I use my stronger hand for the machine and weaker hand for the handle.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Hoover Platinum CSV is absolutely shines in two areas: ease of use (switching from brushroll on to brushroll off, going between surface heights & types), and cleaning ability, especially the tricky maneuver of getting pet hair off area rugs.

WORD TO THE WISE:
I got this information from Hoover after my battery failed: don't store the battery in the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Performer Except Battery Life, March 6, 2009
By
C. H. Murrey (Maryville, TN) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I bought this after seeing the TV Commercial and reading the previous reviews. I have three Scottish Terriers who bring the outside inside on a daily basis. This little vacuum more than handles their combined "footprint." Suction power is great, and ability to turn off roller helps immensely with area rug fringes. Battery power is the major disappointment. Indeed, you cannot waste time as your battery life will limit your square coverage. I was able to cover a 17 x 21, a 10 x10, a 20 x 8 and 12 x 14 room on one charge. That said, if more attention to detail was paid to nooks I am not sure I would have acheived this much. Like the previous reviewer I am debating keeping the machine. An extra battery might alleviate the problem - however, with ability to only charge one battery at a time you are really looking at a six hour gap between cleanings. I plan to call Hoover to see what extra battery/charger options, if any are available. With battery improvement I would give 5... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Vacuuming is now FUN??? No KIDDING!, March 30, 2009
This review is from: Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
FIVE STARS. THE PERFECT VACUUM HAS ARRIVED.(Hoover Platinum Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum) I am a male homeowner (engineer) with a wife and 4 children and am a vacuuming nut. I actually modified TWO 7 year old eureka "theboss cordlesss upright vacuum" to use sears lithium batteries because the nickel cadmium batteries all other vacuums use are so poor. Then I found the hoover vac with linx or lithium batteries. WOW!!! I now have one of these on all 3 floors of our house. Talk about convenient and easy to use. The recharger is plugged in and ready and sits nearby. My wife and I love being able to just grab a lightweight vac whenever we want and just clean a spill made by our active toddler or vacuum a room when it needs it. No more winding and unwinding cords and pulled back muscles and scraped hands struggling to bend over furniture to plug and unplug and remove baby protectors and wasted trips back and forth to the outlets hidden behind sofa's etc. No more backbreaking trips up and down...
